The Hermit: 9 ways
Scryed Themes for 2025 in Tarot
The Hermit is the tarot archetype for the year 2025.
Adding the numbers of the year equals 9, which corresponds to this major arcana card in tarot. His esoteric title is The Prophet of the Eternal, Magus of the Voice of Power. And he is one of three magicians in the tarot (the other two being the Magician and Hierophant). He corresponds to the 9th sphere on the Tree of Life, which is the sphere of Yesod (Foundation), and is called the path of the Pure Intelligence. Yesod's planetary ruler is the moon, and is the world of the astral realm. It's God Name is Shaddai el Chai, it's archangel is Gabriel, and it's angelic choir is the Keruvim. The Hermit corresponds to the Hebrew letter Yod, which is the hand, and has the value of 10. Finally, 9 is the number of finality, the end of a cycle. Completion. Mastery.
All of this esoteric information is interesting, and valuable for all sorts of work throughout the year. However, I don't believe we find our way to higher truth, a commonly known aspect of the Hermit archetype, simply through lists, numbers, and fancy titles. Archetypes are aggregation of energy, of narratives of the human experience. They exist for us to receive, contemplate and be within. But they also exist to be defined by us, through our own experiences and intuitive work. So it is up to each of us to contribute to this archetypal egregore. Scrying, meditation, talismanic ritual work, and simple contemplation and reflection do this.
So, it is in this spirit that I offer the scrying of Hermit cards from 9 different decks as an exploration of this archetype beyond the super simplified and potentially expected interpretations of this card. I love reading with multiple decks at once. They all have a different voice. And it was so interesting to see how my tone changes between cards, but similar themes that pop up, and how they do.
I am an artist, and so many of the decks I am drawn to are by other artists. That said, I don't just like art for art's sake. I require, in most cases, for the esoteric work to exist as well. Before tarot existed in decks, esoteric work was done around archetypes, with all sorts of exploration on correspondences and the like. Before there were decks, there were books. So while some of the decks I've chosen gear more towards what simply speaks to me for reasons unknown, I also chose decks created by magicians and Hermetic practioners who I know spent their lives considering and exploring these archetypes. In this way, they have done their work to contribute to the egregore of these ideas. And so too do I seek to contribute my part. Some of these messages got a little loud and surprising towards the end.
I encourage you to use these channeled pieces in your own work, exploring what may resonate, or not. To use them as a thought and conversation starter, to chime in, and to exercise meditations such as these in your own time and way that feels good to you. My plan is to do this exercise again at the end of the year, and possibly work it into some form of monthly reflection, in order to see how messages may shift and change, or how they may be showing up in experiences over time. Archetypes are not stagnant, rigid ideas. They are living, breathing symbols, mirrors of the human experience, that change along with us, personally and collectively. And I'm very interested to see how the Hermit walks with us this year.
The Hermit: Scryed 9 Ways
Deck: Leonora Carrington
Divine purpose guides. It's not about You, it's about your Mission. You are simply the vehicle. You live in service, as Mission is eternal where You are not. This is the contribution to the greater egregore of the human narrative.
Deck: Thoth
Be faceless in order to access infinite potential. Purity of purpose is shined outward and will inevitably produce the abundant harvest that is ultimately desired. But, we must first have a heart purified.
Deck: Dali
What have you incubated, and now must ground? The direction is given directly from this place. It naturally breaks through any haze or mental confusion. This is not a land for overthinking. It is a way of being a channel. The true crown comes from service.
Deck: Gill
The etheric realms are available to you. You see them more clearly then ever before. This is due to the integration work you have already done between body and Spirit. It has been a solo path. One of death and grief. But you are in the infinite now. You have a key to it all. Breathe in the air from up here. You've made it.
Deck: Oswald Wirth
I don't have much, and don't need anything in the material world. My clothes are not fancy, and yet my material world is in order. My inner self, my inner knowing shines with a unique light that those who are attuned can see and find. This energy needs a voice, a channel, to function in the physical world. Stay steady in the tune, the song will write itself.
Deck: Aquarian
The dualistic world has been complex, at times chaotic, and not always easy or peaceful. But it has resulted in synthesis of your belief systems that you have needed more than you know, in order to walk the path that you are truly meant for. This is a level of royalty no one teaches you about, mainly because we have so few true elders these days. Capitalism has buried the concept of the sage. But their actions, instead, have borne a generation of them. It is now the Age of the Sage. Not false pyramid cult schemes, but those who carry true wisdom through their lived experiences and are innovating our belief system structures. These are the predecessors to all other systems: economic, governmental, industrial.
Deck: Klimt
The rain of knowledge pours on your head. But it doesn't stop there. It pours down and through your body as you are a clear channel for this wisdom. Your intuition is perfected. Your emotions are present only as a spectator, and supportive of this process. You are in awe of all you've been through, all you've done to become bare and humble. But it's time to receive. Because receiving now is not like it would be if you received before, at the bottom of the mountain wearing all you thought would dress you up as the person you thought you were. Now you see who you really are. Divine sight. Blessings for you are blessings for all.
Deck: Austin Osman Spare
Persistence in the eternal now of knowing. A reveal only to those who are ready. The heart isn't a place for games, even though it feels good. Revival is revealed one step at a time.
Deck: Ithell Colqhoun's "Taro as Colour"
A breach of honesty. A cloud of Maybes is resolved through a path guided by a true Yes. The abyss is no match for you. An unstoppable force is the connection to what's true. Dreams say more than you give them credit for. Use them for a more integrated experience.
Notes + Reflections:
Talk of all the work that has been done as readying one for an absolute knowledge of self, which comes with an absolute trust of intuition, a connection to the heart, and the way this results in being a clear channel for Spirit. All manifestations come from the act of simply being in this place.
In spite of having a full and complete knowledge of self, being completely in service, in mission, and even faceless. It's almost as if the greatest knowing of self results in an existence of "self" that is simply a channel, yet it is incredibly specific. The channel is completely unique and meant only for those attuned. Working with frequency like a radio.
Connection to the astral world, which aligns with the connection to Yesod. A call to actively working with dreams as a tool.
A shift of power and reverance from the abusive kings of capitalism to the Age of the Sage. And a growing awareness of the importance of Sages: oracles, philosophers, teachers, healers, guides for how they are doing the high level work of considering who we even are and what we may even want as a human group, which then lays the Foundation (again, Yesod), of the new systems we want to be building as the old guard crumbles. Calling back to dreams again: literally dreaming a new world. Not as some lofty ungrounded dream, but energetic creations that are concepted based on the lived, cultivated wisdom of experience.
A very loud call to absolute trust of intuition, of the knowing of the heart, and of the self, from a place of service, in order to navigate external confusion or chaos.
All in all, some very interesting takeaways that definitely enhanced my understanding, challenged my previous notion that the Hermit was about withdrawing from society in order to cultivate wisdom, and more about the fact that he already has. And now exists as an embodied tool, uniquely crafted through his lived experiences, to bring Spirit through into this world—not for everyone, but for the exact people and places and situations that he is tuned into.
